Flint Knapping using an ancient punch technique. From my prehistoric home in this video I will be testing my flint knapping skills to make a stone tool used by the Inuit culture to prepare hides. The technique used to achieve a box section was originally from Denmark in the Bronze Age when they made axes like this. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌈
hardest thing about quartz is the brittleness and inclusions which make it fracture into flaky chunks and pebbles, you can though like the natives in canada, make a rattle which lights up cause the quartz sparks inside, thunder rattles lol
Success in failure.. a fine dagger nevertheless!
What was meant to come from the piece did
What ratio of copper to tin do you prefer for a bronze blade?

Oof! Glad you salvaged it!
Not traumatized -fascinated.
Go on Will you tell em.
2:02 nice
Hello, i have just stumbled upon your video and i have been wondering since i was a kid on how theyvdi knapping to make arrow heads and i saw your dagger-that was very very good and interesting and informative - am already 65 now but am going to go exploring and fibd some flint from foot tracks and river beds... It is great getting info and video on how to do it!!!
"And we're bleeding" - every flintknapper who's ever lived.
"gild the lily" comes to mind. It was like watching a horror movie where you know what's going to happen but you don't know when.
😂😂😂 I get that 😂😂😂
Lovely when experience dictates that you know what you're doing.
💝🕯🙏
Good vid, thank you. I understand that you are "in the zone"... but what birds are talking to you at the time? Also please speak about smoking kill and preserving?
Nice job... Actual blood & sweat in your work
😎 🔪 👍
Was time well spent, the result was beautiful, loving finding you on here. 👊
A question. Can you discuss the pros / cons of having more heartwood vs more sapwood as i see here.
This entire video is bloody brilliant!
Bummer on the break man, looking forward to the adventure!
Good Content Will
Hey Will! Do you have any experience researching North American flint knapping or Have you ever looked into a U.S.A trip? We have some challenging materials but Native American Ingenuity created some astonishing styles of knapping. I’d love to hear your thoughts/experience with it. Your patience and attitude is something every knapper can aspire to. 🤘🏼 Be well Friend!
That was/is my favourite bench Will, I'd be sat there at 5 in the morning getting the tinder ready for the fire
Looking forward to watching the Danish Adventure unfold!
Yes mate it was a joy to see
Your knapping is the purist form of magic. With your will and intention you manifest amazing tools. Thank you.
From the scars on your hands, I see the flint gods require a blood sacrifice from time to time. A good recovery from the ashes.
And it still came out great!
sounds like a very fun adventure. Best of luck on your search
And my friend he has blonde hair came in one of your day thing at the weekends
I when to one of your day things
BBBBRROOOOO WILL IM RELATED TO YOU
THAT BLADE HAS A SEAX LOOK AND YOUR OFF TO DENMARK . THINGS WERE MENT TO BE .
Wow I found this
Yeah, nice save!
If youre going to north jytland you should Vilsund. (15m car-ride from Thisted) There's a hotel there called "Hotel Vilsund strand" if you follow the beach north, you'll see a bunch of nice flint, I've been there a few times to collect flint for myself.
Can anyone explain to me why the English differentiate between England and Europe? England is part of Europe, so why the seperation?
Viking’s
Geologically we are part of Europe. Historically, everyone and his brother from Europe has tried to invade us. So it's "us" and "them over there".
How do you get Woolly Mammoth bones?
Coastal wandering buddy
Well damn. Wish my mistakes turned out that great! Another beautiful knife. Thanks for the show.
Cool video , master craftsman ❤
Heart breaker
I don't know how taxes are paid in the UK , but here in the US , you could subtract a portion of the cost of your trip as business expenses against your earned income . I always enjoy watching craftsman make things.
Well saved Will, that is nice.
Very good!
I would love another one of these. I loved it.🔥🌄⛰️🌲☀️☄️✨🏔️🦣🌨️🌊
Great Video Will, thanks for sharing. It was looking like a Solutrean Blade, thin and pinpointed. Stay safe and I cannot wait to see your trip, hug Maude for me. Peace
Cheers Paul much appreciated my friend xx
That's an incredibly beautiful dagger Will, I was wondering about 2 things that I'm sure you could answer, 1) Does the different marine life that formed the flint make a marked difference to the quality and hardness 2) Can you identify other flint knappers work, as in can you see a finished piece and know it was made by a particular flint knapper, this was a fascinating vid man, Bravo!
Are you concerned by potential knife laws affecting your craft? I worry I might end up being the unwilling exclusive axe maker :(
No I couldn’t give a flying uk about the laws they want us to abide by to be honest 😂
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival my heart appreciates your stance but my head worries. I hope your heart's stance wins out for our craft in the end. :)

Bloody hell, Will! That's a skull! 02:22 And you're tapping him gently with a rock right in the teeth. Where are my manners … have a nice trip. Godspeed, Will!
Nice save Will! I wish you a safe and adventurous trip! I hope you capture some of it for your channel. ✌️
